Date Ideas For Couples With Toddlers in Toronto
I STILL love to take Eunice out on regular adventures. Every Saturday we have a perfect window between 9 AM and noon to embark on a lovely date. Of course, Rosie will be third wheeling (or am I the third wheel?) with us, but we wouldn’t want it any other way. Part of the joy of going on dates these days is to witness Rosie experience new things. The double joy is tiring her out so that she is out cold for her afternoon nap! That’s when our REAL date time begins – just kidding. As you can relate, the best dates are now the ones where your children can have the most fun. Check out these date ideas for couples with toddlers in Toronto. These locations will be perfect for your family on those sunny summer days coming up!
Lake Wilcox
We just discovered this romantic little lake in Richmond Hill. This park has got all the ingredients (and free parking) to make a fabulous date with your spouse and kids.
Eunice and I love to go there on a weekday or late afternoon on a weekend. We’ll hit the treehouse playground right away; Rosie’s eyes light up when she sees it. That might occupy her the whole time, but we eventually pull her away to hit up the exhilarating water park just beside the playground.
There are beach chairs and turf surrounding the whole play area for anyone to set up camp. Eunice will sit and watch Rosie and I frolic in the water.
To top it all off, we grab some soft serve from the ice cream truck and take a stroll around the lake. It’s beautiful no matter what time of day.
Just a word of caution: this park does get extremely busy during the weekends in the summer. Crowded places are no fun with toddlers!
Grange Park
This little gem is tucked away in the heart of downtown Toronto. Our friend and family photographer, Jessica, introduced us to this park just recently and we’ve already gone twice.
As we first approached the park, Rosie was the first to point out the funky play structure – you’ll know what I mean when you see it. We had so much fun climbing the strange angles and platforms!
As we played hide and seek with our little one, we couldn’t help but notice the odd structures staring down at us.
On one side we had the pixel slab of OCAD University, on another the needle point of the CN tower, and on another a strange blue building (do you know this one?).
What we love about this park is that there are so many areas to explore in such close vicinity. Your toddler will love every part of it. Did we mention there was a mini water park, dog park, and washrooms?
Riverdale Farm
When we googled “farm” with the intention of travelling North, we had no idea we would find this little sanctuary smack dab in downtown Toronto.
It’s actually not a farm, but a mini zoo with farm animals. The Toronto Zoo used to be in this location before it moved to Rouge Park. Just recently we brought Rosie there for the first time; she’s just learning to recognize animals, but what she enjoyed the most was climbing the fences and running down hills.
We awe’d at the baby lambs, peeked in on a pig sleepover, chirped at chickens, and got close to some horsies. Apart from that, Eunice and I love the cute neighbourhood surrounding this zoo.
We might grab some treats in Cabbagetown or take a stroll in the nearby necropolis. Without doubt, Riverdale farm is one of our favourite date places!
