The First Day Of Our Honeymoon

We’re on vacation this week, so we thought we might bring you along by retelling our honeymoon experience. We somehow, for reasons that escape us, decided to go San Diego, California – and we are so glad we did!

By God’s grace, I was able to plan our honeymoon without any help or even involvement from Eunice. This is a feat if you haven’t read her blog post about my lack of organizational skills.

Flying Away To New Lands On Our Honeymoon

We left the morning of the second day after our wedding. Our spirits were high from the dopamine rushes of the prior days as we set off on our first adventure as husband and wife:

We arrive at Pearson airport with child-like excitement. A bunch of seflies, airplane safety protocols, tomato juice, rewatching The Dark Knight, and we’re there in the Sunshine state by 10 AM.

Like some 5 year old kids running into a candy shop, we pick up our rental car. Only these were red, yellow and black coated hot tamales with silky leather insides and shiny silver knobs. Imagine our delight when the store keeper told us to “pick one, any one!”

California Dreamin’ On Our Honeymoon

Maybe I’m too worldly, but there’s something special about driving a mustang with your girl (ahem..the girl who is your wife) down to the beach. We soak sun all afternoon on the scorching sand – being baked and broiled at the same time. A roaring AC-130 wakes us from above, landing into the Coronado Navy Airbase.

I manage to convince Eunice to go for a dip in the ocean with me (not any easy task!) We go cool off in the great Pacific as the sun reclines into the horizon.

After the beach Eunice and I head to check in at our hotel room. We are staying at 1906 Lodge on Coronado Island, a cute B&B I scoped out on Trip Advisor. Tasty snacks and drinks await our arrival. We get our fill, check into our room, and wash up for dinner.

Golden hour is upon us. Eunice strides down the cute downtown strip in her charming summer dress – no filter needed. Old banks and cute shops and restaurant patios line the street. Coronado has a funny bylaw where no two houses can be the same, resulting in a Willy Wonka experience for its guests.

We end up picking a place and enjoying some pasta and local beers.

Old School Fun On Our Honeymoon

It’s almost dark and I take Eunice exploring the grounds of Hotel Del Coronado, a historic Victorian beach resort. It’s famous red roofs loom over us as they are given a purple-ish hue from the twilight. The egg white walls emit a heavenly glow. The interior reminds us of scenes of the grand hall from The Titanic as we frolic the corridors like Jack and Rose.

The afternoon sun and filling meal have left us pooched, so we start walking back. While we enter the small courtyard, we notice strange flower petals leading up to our room. “What could this be?” Eunice wonders…

Surprise! We walk into a candle lit room, jaccuzzi filled, champagne and chocolates placed out, house coats on the bed, and fresh roses riddled about. California love is in the air. We spend the rest of the evening sharing stories and sweets, enjoying each other’s company and the wonder of our new marriage.

Thanks for reliving the first day of our honeymoon with us! We hope it inspired you.
